THE HISTORY OF HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, NEW JERSEY

Adjacent to the Trenton, the capital of New Jersey, Hamilton was established on April 11, 1842, from portions of the now-defunct Nottingham Township by taking sections of the township were taken form Chambersburg borough and Wilbur borough. It derives it name form the village of Hamilton Square, which was named for Alexander Hamilton.

In 2006, Morgan Quitno ranked Hamilton Township as the eighteenth safest "city" in the United States, out of 369 cities nationwide.

November 2007 - LoveHamilton.com also implemented a very powerful strategic re-election campaign for Mayor Glen Gilmore in October/November 2007... Up until Thursday November 1, 2007, Mayor Gilmore was expected to win comfortably. LoveHamilton.com was outsmarted by the genius of Hamilton Council President David Kenny, Esq. who subpoenaed the Annual Financial Statement from Mayor Gilmore just in time to make first page headlines two days before Election Day. In spite of this master stroke in favor of John Bencivengo, and in spite of the low voter turnout (which is detrimental for an incumbent), the final votes were only 500 votes apart from a total vote tally of 25,752!... Mayor Gilmore explained that he was holding back release the annual financial statement because he was trying to fix the deficit problem with $4 million long-term bonds but his efforts were blocked by council.

Wednesday, January 2, 2008 - Former Hamilton Mayor Glen D. Gilmore leaves office without regret keeping his career options open after taking a little time off. Glen, now 45, and his wife Katie will stay in Hamilton, NJ. Katie Gilmore teaches language arts to 7th- and 8th- grade students in the South Brunswick school district. It was also heard that he may be practicing law or perhaps accept a one year assignment overseas. LoveHamilton.com wishes Glen and Katie all the best in the future.

Monday, December 31, 2008 - Mayor Glen Gilmore whose term ends today proposed a $86.9 million budget and a 12 cent tax hike, diffusing the republican council’s forecast of a significant tax hike. For a Hamilton homeowner whose home is assessed at $200,000, their tax increase would be in the order of $240.

Friday, December 28, 2007 - Mayor-elect John Bencivengo plans to appoint former township Councilman Michael Angarone as Hamilton's director of Economic Development and Technology, Robert Warney as director of Engineering, Planning and Inspections and Cathy Tramontana, a former chairwoman of the county Republican Party, as director of Health, Recreation and Senior and Veteran Services in Hamilton.

Bencivengo also plans to appoint Anthony Massi as presiding municipal court judge, R. Douglass R. Hoffman as judge, D.G. Sarsfield and Jerry J. Dasti as prosecutors, and Raymond C. Staub and Edward Goreas as public defenders.

Thursday, December 13, 2007 - Mayor Elect John Bencivengo, who will be sworn in on New Year's Day, gave termination notices to 13 employees including Business Administrator John Mason and Township Attorney Paul Adezio, Director of Public Works Rich Balgowan, Director of Health Kathy Fitzgerald, Township Engineer Thomas Dunn, Director of Planning, Engineering and Inspections Lloyd Jacobs, Director of Technology Hal English, the township's municipal prosecutors, the assistant township attorney, and Mayor Gilmore's secretary Jill Moyer. Bencivengo is likely to terminate likely also release municipal judges Paul Catanese and Mary Brennan. Vacated position will most likely be filled by party loyalists. Police Chief James Collins and Deputy Police Chief George Zimmer have not received notices yet. Department director jobs carry a salary of $99,851 along with full benefits
